Phani at the University of Cincinnati

Hello World.

Ha ha , I couldn't resist that one. After all , programming is my profession (read: Hobby) . I left India on the 29th of July (My home state was bifurcated into 2 regions as we began our ascent) and reached Cincinnati on the 30th.  It was an entertaining journey on Air India , and I watched 6 movies back to back. Seeing the clouds for the first time from above was a was a wonderful feeling  :)

Contrary to my expectations, Cincinnati was nowhere close to what I had imagined it would be. It was not filled with skyscrapers, it was not full of people, and more importantly, it was not cold .(YET) . I was provided temporary accommodation  at two places ( Thanks to all the people who made my stay pleasant).

I finally moved into my apartment on 7th, with Yuvaraj, Arun and Abhilash. What a feeling it was, to be some place HOME finally. College started on 26th, and we had a couple of orientations along the way. My team and I won the "Best Communicators" award (Thanks, Hope Schneider) in the communications workshop.

We (International Students) had an trip to the Ohio river, and lunch on the boat ( where i accidentally ingested a small quantity of You-Dont-Want-To-Know-What  from a vegetarian's point of view) . It was an enjoyable experience as we traveled through the downtown area of the city.

We also had a Ropes Course(Team building Event), where I got to know people from various teams, and nationalities.  It was really worth it, and I had to walk blindfolded on a tightrope (a few inches off the ground, of course :P )

I bought a new laptop (Acer Aspire V3-772G-9829) , a Targus Drifter II backpack, and a Sony MDR-ZX100 headphones.   Everything is expensive in USA ( He He, Dollar to Rupee conversion mode is still on).
Met old friends and made new friends here.

I went to the International Friendships Inc , where I met several american friends. Had a great Indian meal  there , and that night, we saw the fireworks celebrations at the university. WoW. I also met with the University president Santa Ono there ( He was very Cool :) )

The library at UC is the one I loved the most :) There is a large (read: HUGE) collection of reference materials there . We can even borrow projectors (he he, picture my wicked Grin) , cameras, and Laptops (miniature ones).

I speak to my family twice a day (on SKYPE only) , and so far, i feel comfortable. Hoping  for the best :D

Coding till exhaustion !

Hi Guys,

I have successfully created 8 Blackberry apps within 2 days,  sitting at a stretch . ! Tough work , but considering the returns expected, it is worth the effort :D  In the final phase of creating 4 more apps today , and then will come the actual task of submitting them to the vendor marketplace ! Lets see what happens .

Meanwhile, I saw a traffic constable chasing a thief today. They ran past me in a flash, and it took me a few moments to realize that the guy being chased was a thief. They quickly took a turn at the corner of the street and disappeared from sight !

I , Vamsi Krishna , And Ganesh Gangarajula had a midnight bout of CS and i thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the game.I slept at 3 am !

In the morning, while I set up my music system to listen to Krishnam Vande Jagatgurum, I had a conversation with my dad . H told me that he had bought his first radio (huge one with to big woofers) , the very same one that greets anyone who visits our hall , and that there had been license at that time to possess a radio ! Unbelievable, isn't it ? To have a license for a radio and pay an yearly fee , or risk it being confiscated !  Thank god, we are not living in such times.

Passions !

Hi Guys,
I had a great time coding today ! Learnt Blackberry application development right from the scratch.  Discovered the insanely useful bbui.js that aided me in building 3 apps in a day. Yeah, 3 apps today, though "far lesser" than my initial estimate of 5 !
Apart from the fact that i couldn't go to office due to an upset stomach (Are those Hajmolas to be blamed ? I popped in two packets without remorse yesterday .. alas, a childhood addiction :P )
Mentally preparing for a goa trip (starting on the 10th of Jan) .
I am exhausted , I did almost nothing else apart from coding today ! I desperately need some water, and some exercise for this body.  Hmm , I did remove my fully grown beard though , now my chin  looks naked and awkward for the eye.
There were several funny events that happend while i was coding. It is from a technical viewpoint, so I wont be sharing it here , but i did spend a couple of hours today resolving syntax errors ! Hopefully i should be able to double my pace and build 6 apps tomorrow :)
I couldn't write my story today, neither could i write a few rhyming lines. My guitar lay untouched, and so did my phone.  Only my 3 Tb external drive and its predecessor, the 2 Tb drive  , made contact with me. I am addicted to the "Krishnam Vande Jagatgurum" song - not the whole, but a few exciting parts.
My mind tells me i can descend into a new world , constantly writing , pouring my thoughts onto the paper or screen .My body tells me it is too late in the night and i might already be delirious. For now, i'll go with the body's version.  See ya tomorrow folks

The 31st of December ? No Big deal !

Hi guys,

Guess how my day started today ? I woke up earlier than usual (by my standards, of course). Sat in front of the PC, searching for some content on Blackberry applcation development.  I have challenged myself to finish atleast 10 apps by the end of this week , so its gonna be hectic for me :D . Aaah, whats life without a bit of challenge anyway :P

I decided to observe and jot down a few things i saw.  So while I sat in the bus,  instead of writing my novel as I did regularly, I peeked out of the window for a change.  The first thing I saw was a playground, at  8 am in the morning, teeming with university students doing their warmups and playing cricket. It would have fileld me with some usual envy of not being able to go and play there , but today was different.  I saw a guy with a single leg , playing cricket . Astounded,  I watched him for a few seconds , and realized that his spirit  was not marred by his absence of a leg. Yeah, he was doing Captain Dhoni's job, but still , not many teams have the open mindedness to include a player with different abilities . That brightened up my mood for the day .

A few minutes later, as the bus passed by a cowshed, where a large number of cattle are fed and bred , I happened to notice an ox, staring hard at a crow.  The crow was walking  up and down a railing , as if it were a Philosopher musing in deep thought , before it  finally settled on the ox's back and gave it a nudge.  I could have bet there was some symbioic communication there !

Our bus halted at a traffic signal , and I watched the intersection as the people passed by.  Suddenly a pair of really small girls, maybe in their second or third grade,  started running across the road.  There was an RTC bus driver ,  watching the signal as he was the first at the intersection , but taking no notice of  those kids.He was drinking water thankfully,  or else it could have resulted in a major accident ! The kids and the drivers should be extremely careful !

I fell asleep after a while, and when I woke up , I was nearly at my office.  I quickly adjusted my bag, and gt down the bus as usual.  When i neared the ckeckpoint inside the gate, i realized that my phone was not in my pocket.  Having lost a mobile nearly 2 months back in the same office bus, i was jumping to conclusions this time :P i hurried and went out, only to find that the bus had already left.  I asked a security guard to ring my mobile, while I took my bag and went inside.  I had a hunch that I might have wrapped it inside my hoodie. I unpacked my bag and there it was, in silent mode !

Relieved , I walked fast and decided to go from a different path than usual.  I unexpectedly  met my Delivery manager there, who gave me several tips on confidence, posture and attitude .. The conclusion was "Look in the eye , it convinces people of your intentions".

Office was pretty normal today, the only deviation being that i had forgotten to eat my breakfast. I had asked mom to pack me corn flakes and milk , and my stomach began rumbling at around 10.40 am.  I quickly downed the cupful f flakes and the glassful of milk, getting relieved of hunger temporarily. I did complete a significant portion of my office work today , before venturing into Blackberry application development at the end of the day.

Not so boring after all , right , that too being the last day of the year :D  Well , there's more .

I did write about 3 pages of plot while returning home. I also slept again for the most part of an hour, waking up just 2 minutes before i reached my stop.I did muse of several things philosophical , but I'd rather wait and edit a few drafts of what I "thought" , or people might think i am delirious :p   Came home, did manage to glean a bit into the workings of Blackberry apps. Finally started writing my blog so that I might have a remember what happened today.   Hoping for more observations tomorrow  :D
